Work From Home Jobs and Staying Productive and Disciplined
Last week I sat down to do some work from home on my business, I planned to write some articles add some content to my sites and clean up some code. Unfortunately for me I started reading email and then I got all caught up in it and the emails and that led to other useless stupidity and before I knew it 3 & 1/2 hours had passed, wasted on sheer and utter stupidity!!
I know this has happened to you guys who work from home many times, so don’t even try to deny it!
It is important to address time management when working from home because we need to have a lot more discipline than working for a boss. When working from home we have the freedom to choose what we do when we work and there is no one to answer to but our selves. It is easy to get distracted and lazy and do stuff that is more fun and appealing than actually doing the tasks that will accelerate our work from home incomes.
Also, I am sure that many of you have full time jobs, kids and spouses that allow only a limited amount of time to work from home and building your business or to get paid taking online surveys, or whatever work from home endeavors you are working on and so the time you do have is just that much more precious.
So, after I lost those 3 hours and I knew that I have done this before, I decided to implement a better plan, because let’s face it we all need work from home encouragement at times and we need to be more disciplined than at a regular 9-5 job.
Working from Home Time and Task Management Plan:
1. Everyday write down a list of tasks that must be completed the following day. Be realistic and make sure these can all be completed in the time available and that you will have enough time to work from home in completing these tasks.
2. Don’t put to many complicated brain draining activities on the same list. Remember that work from home and building a business is not easy work and often we work harder form home than we ever did for the boss and it is easy to get burned out.
Try to mix the more creative and exhausting work from home tasks with easier more technical tasks that do not take a lot of brain power.
Also, leave the automated tasks for last, like checking email that does not take a lot of brain juice should be done at the end of the work day and the work from home that takes more energy should be done first when you are fresh and awake.
3. Have the list sitting where it will slap you in the face as you sit down at your work from home station.
4. Make a commitment to work first on those tasks and nothing else until they are done. No email, turn off the phone ringer, don’t answer the door or engage in other distracting activities!
5. Commit to beat yourself senseless unless you stick to the plan
I have been doing this since last week and I cannot believe how much more productive and efficient I am. Also, I find that my work from home has improved because I am doing these important tasks FIRST when I am fresh and clear!
It is very e
asy to get frustrated and feel scattered when working from home when you do not feel like you have done all the important tasks and are not moving forward. Several times I have spent the day on stupid useless drifting and did not accomplish a thing and once I started using the daily goals list it really has helped me to stay focused on task. The above steps really remedy this because they are well planned out and are concrete daily goals of the tasks you need to achieve working from home.
My productivity has increased greatly and it is a well known fact that humans, while most jobs are 8 hours a day, really only are prouctive for about 5 hours of that, the rest is fluff. So make sure that you work from home efficiently by taking advantage of being organized and focused on the work at hand. And, after I am done with those tasks then I can spend as long as I want on email and whatever without any guilt!

I have just started to work from home and I can say that it is not easy to stay focused and disciplined. This post really helps and I will work out my work from home task plan tonight!
Thanks!
